Storm expected to bring up to 50 cm of snow to B.C.'s north coast

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for British Columbia's north coast, saying a "prolonged snowstorm" will bring up to 50 cm of snow by Thursday night.

It says about 15 cm has already fallen and a low pressure system will move over the region this morning, bringing about 10 cm more.

The weather office says another 25 cm of snow is expected between this evening and Thursday night.

Environment Canada has also issued a snowfall warning for the northern and central Interior region of British Columbia, saying 15 cm of snow is expected.

The bulletin says periods of light snow will start today before transitioning into consistent snowfall tonight.

The weather office says the system will move out of the region by noon Friday.

The weather office is warning drivers in those regions that visibility may be reduced and road conditions will vary during heavy snowfall.

The warning comes about a week after a bomb cyclone moved across B.C., bringing winds up to 170 km/h and cutting power to more than 300,000 BC Hydro customers.

Mounties on Vancouver Island say a man has been arrested in Ontario and another is believed to have fled to India after shots were fired at a home in Greater Victoria last month. Property records show the home is owned by Punjabi music star A-P Dhillon, who posted on Instagram after the shooting that he was safe.

The City of Vancouver says the remaining seven residents of an encampment at a Downtown Eastside park have a week to pack up their belongings and leave, or they must remove their tents each day as the area returns to regular daytime use. New Westminster police say they received the second report after issuing a public statement about the first interaction involving two 12-year-old girls on October 26th.

Pedestrian dies in vehicle crash

Ridge Meadows Mounties say a female pedestrian died last week after being struck by a vehicle in one of three crashes involving cyclists or pedestrians in the area in the last seven days. Police say the fatal crash happened on Lougheed Highway on October 25th, when the 49-year-old victim from Pitt Meadows died at the scene despite live-saving efforts from emergency workers.
