Student seriously injured in school bus rollover on Alberta highway: RCMP

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Jan, 2025 03:43 PM
  • Student seriously injured in school bus rollover on Alberta highway: RCMP

Mounties say a child is in hospital after a school bus flipped on a highway east of Edmonton.

Officers were dispatched to the crash on Highway 16 near Vegreville after the lunch hour.

Two students and a driver were on board.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Troy Savinkoff says one student was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the other sustained minor scrapes and bruises.

The bus driver had minor injuries.

Savinkoff says icy roads, strong winds and whiteout conditions may have caused the bus to hit the ditch and flip.

RCMP are reminding drivers in central Alberta to stay cautious, as road conditions remain poor in some areas.
