Sukh Dhaliwal Wins Nomination Race, To Be Liberal Candidate For Surrey—Newton In Next Election

Darpan News Desk , 16 Dec, 2014 11:48 AM
SURREY, BC – Over 7000 members of the Surrey—Newton Federal Liberal Association met on Saturday, December 13, 2014, where Sukh Dhaliwal was nominated as the candidate who will represent the Liberal Party of Canada in the next federal election in Surrey—Newton.

A businessman and former Liberal Member of Parliament for Newton—North Delta from 2006 to 2011, Dhaliwal was humbled by the riding’s strong showing at the open nomination meeting.

“I'd like to thank the Liberal members of Surrey—Newton for putting their trust in me. It is a great honour and a privilege to have the responsibility of representing you all during the next federal election.” Dhaliwal continued, “I'm proud to be a member of Team Trudeau and to work towards positive new Leadership for this country."

To allow everyone the opportunity to have their voice heard, over 30 separate registration kiosks were open and voting was open for eleven hours. The over 7000 participants marks the largest nomination meeting to date in the country – a direct result of the success of the open nomination process in a heavily contested race.
