A Surrey man has been arrested and charged with Sexual Assault following an investigation by members of the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
 
At 6:50 pm, April 14, 2016, a young woman boarded the SkyTrain at Surrey Central Station. A short time later a man boarded the train at Gateway Station and sat in front of the woman. 
 
He turned and stared at her, repeatedly telling her she was pretty. The man was so intent in his staring that the woman was able to take a photo of him without him being aware. 
 
After several moments of continuous staring, the man reached around and allegedly forcefully pushed his hand between the woman’s legs. She pushed him away but he continued to stare at her until he left the train at Columbia Station.
 
The woman continued on to 22nd Street Station where she left the train and reported the incident to a SkyTrain Attendant, who called Transit Police.
 
 
Transit Police initiated an investigation which resulted in the arrest of David Evan RAMSEY, 60 years, previously known to police. 
 
RAMSEY, who was charged with Sexual Assault, has appeared in court and been released on a Recognizance with conditions that include Not to Use SkyTrain except between Surrey Central Station and Columbia Station and Not to Possess weapons. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 27, 2016 in New Westminster Provincial Court at 11 am.
 
Transit Police Chief Officer Doug LePard stated, “Combatting sexual offending on our transit system continues to be a top priority for our department. We are committed to taking every reported incident of unwanted sexual behaviour seriously and investigating it thoroughly. Passengers have the right to use transit free from harassment or assault of any kind.”
