Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum Unveils Municipal Police Force Logo, Cruiser At State Of The City Address

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 May, 2019 06:45 PM

Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum today unveiled the potential logo and cruiser designs for his promised municipal police force, even though the city still needs provincial approval to move forward with its plans.

“By establishing Surrey Police, the accountability will stay in our city, with Surrey’s residents and business owners where it belongs.” – the Mayor McCallum said in the State of the City address.

”There is more to do, and I look forward to hearing from our residents as they help us create a Surrey Police Department that is accountable to all who call Surrey home.”

McCallum then showcased a short video featuring conceptual images of Surrey Police officers in action, along with an cruiser marked with a Surrey Police logo.

He also unveiled a website, surreypolice.ca

While Mayor Doug McCallum says a new force will be patrolling our streets by July 2020, Councillor Linda Annis says that's "very optimistic" since the province hasn't even received the proposed policing plan.

McCallum also highlighted the promises he considered “checked off” his to do list, like the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain, the municipal police force and eliminating parking at city hall.
