  • Surrey RCMP Advise The Public After A Sexual Assault By South Asian Male

Surrey RCMP is advising the public of a sexual assault, which took place in the Newton area, and asking the public to come forward with any additional information.


At approximately 9:40 pm, on February 22, 2019, a woman was grabbed from behind by an unknown man as she was walking in West Newton Community Park, located in the 13000 block of 59th Avenue. The man threatened the woman and demanded sexual acts. The woman was able to escape the man and was physically unharmed.


Investigators from the Surrey RCMP’s Special Victims Unit have taken conduct of the file and are asking for the public’s assistance to identify the suspect in this incident.


The suspect is described as a South Asian male, in his 20s, with a medium build, and approximately 5'7 tall. He was described as having a chubby face with a small beard. At the time of the assault he was wearing a woolen hat and a dark jacket.


Investigators also believe there were people in the park at the time of the incident and are appealing for those people to come forward with any information they have.
