Surrey RCMP Lay Multiple Charges Against Man Accused Of Fleeing Police In Stolen SUV

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Mar, 2017 12:07 PM
Surrey RCMP has arrested and charged a man alleged to have occupied a stolen SUV that tried to evade Police.

On March 2nd, Delta Police received a report of a prized family vehicle stolen from in front of their residence in the 8700 block of Delwood Drive in Delta. The SUV, a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, was bought new by the family and had sentimental value that could not be replaced.

On March 9th at 8:30 am, Surrey RCMP received a call from a friend of the family. The friend saw the SUV driving by near the intersection of 124th Street and old Yale Road in Surrey.

Surrey RCMP’s Auto Crime Target Team (ACTT) was quickly sent into the area and located the SUV near 108th Avenue and 132nd Street. ACTT enlisted the assistance of the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT) and the Lower Mainland’s Air 1 Police Helicopter.

The vehicle drove erratically forcing other vehicles off the road. Air1 kept a watchful eye until the suspect abandoned the SUV and tried to hide in a residence in the 13700 block of Bentley Road in Surrey. Officers contained the residence and eventually arrested one person, alleged to having been in the SUV, without further incident.

Kyle Robert Davies,  19 years old of no fixed address, has been charged as follows:

    Possession of a stolen vehicle

    Dangerous driving

Possession of tools for breaking into a vehicle

    Driving while prohibited

    Breach of probation

Contrary to popular belief, when an auto thief is caught they are rarely charged with a singular offense, says Corporal Scotty Schumann.

Property crime is largely driven by auto crime and stolen vehicles are often the starting point for further crimes and much larger investigations. ACTT routinely works with a number of local and integrated policing partners focused on auto crime like IMPACT and Air 1. Thanks to the quick action on behalf of the family friend we were able to return this SUV to the family.
