Surrey RCMP say one person injured in shooting, believed linked to drug trade

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 06 Jul, 2023 09:39 AM
  • Surrey RCMP say one person injured in shooting, believed linked to drug trade

One person is being treated in hospital for a non-life-threatening injury after a shooting in Surrey, Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the 80 Avenue and Fleetwood Park area just before 6 p.m. for reports of two groups of men shooting at each other.

Officers say the injured man took off from the scene in a vehicle that was later found in the Fraser Highway and 148 Street area.

Surrey RCMP believe the two groups involved in the shooting knew each other and that this was a targeted incident.

Officers located one of the suspect vehicles with four occupants inside, a black Nissan Altima, at Fraser Highway and 148 Street. Three of the occupants were detained, and the fourth, an 18-year-old man, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As the investigation unfolded, officers tracked down a second suspect vehicle, a white Tesla and a 16-year-old male was detained.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have currently been laid.

Investigators continue to search for a third suspect vehicle believed to be involved in the incident, a black Honda Civic that was seen fleeing the Fleetwood Park area at the time of the shooting.

The victim is well known to police, and is believed to be involved in the drug trade.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

The hike is aimed at quelling inflation, which has proved stubborn, not moving down quickly enough toward the central bank's target of two per cent. However, the hike is also bound to weigh on those hunting for homes or holding mortgages.
