Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 May, 2026 04:57 PM
  • Surrey Soccer Fan Zones kick off with opening celebration on June 12

The City of Surrey will officially launch its Surrey Soccer Fan Zones with a free opening celebration on June 12 at Civic Plaza, where fans can gather to watch Canada’s first match of the FIFA World Cup 26™ on the big screen. In honour of this once-in-a-lifetime moment, the first 250 fans will receive a $10 coupon redeemable at all food and beverage vendors onsite, along with additional giveaways.

This celebration kicks off six weeks of more than 100 free live match broadcasts at three locations, offering residents and visitors the chance to share the excitement of the world’s biggest sporting event.

“Surrey is proud to welcome residents and visitors to our fan zones to celebrate the beautiful game,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “These free, inclusive spaces are about more than watching matches — they’re about bringing people together to share in a global moment. We invite everyone to join us on June 12 at Civic Plaza, and across Surrey, as we cheer for Canada and enjoy the FIFA World Cup 26™.”

The opening celebration will feature a live broadcast of the Canadian men’s team taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a special appearance by Surrey-born Whitecaps FC midfielder Jeevan Badwal, whose rapid rise in Major League Soccer was marked by scoring his first goal in his first home start last year.

Fans can enjoy a full day of activities, featuring the Surrey Sports Hall of Fame booth, Whitecaps FC and local soccer clubs, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, community exhibitors, food trucks, and a beer garden. Programming also extends to Kick It! at Central City Plaza.

Two additional Surrey Soccer Fan Zones will open later in the tournament:

  • Cloverdale Agriplex on July 1, in conjunction with Surrey’s Canada Day festivities
  • South Surrey Athletic Park on July 14

The City of Surrey gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

The Civic Plaza fan zone will be open for public viewing on June 11. For detailed schedules, programming, and event information, visit surreysoccerfanzones.ca.
