Darpan News Desk New Westminster Police, 20 Apr, 2021 07:29 PM
  • Suspect arrested after allegedly threatening security guard with knife

On April 14th at approximately 5:30pm the New Westminster Police Department was called to a retail store on Boyd Street for a report of a man brandishing a knife at a security guard. Allegedly the man brandished a knife when he was stopped by the security guard for trying to leave the store with unpaid merchandise.

Once police arrived on scene they located a man matching the suspect description who was in possession of two knives. The suspect was safely taken into custody.

“Threatening someone with a weapon is a crime we take very seriously,” stated Media Relations Officer Sergeant Sanjay Kumar. “We’re thankful the staff at this store reached out to us and reported this incident. Thanks to our patrol officers for arriving on scene quickly and safely taking this individual into custody.”

The New Westminster Police Department would like to remind residents that if they witness a crime in progress they’re asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
