Suspect In Beating Of Man With Autism Plans To Turn Himself Into Police On Monday: Police

, 22 Mar, 2018 12:32 PM

Peel police are telling that they have been in contact with Ronjot Singh Dhami’s lawyer, identified as one of the suspects in the shocking assault of a man with autism at the Square One bus terminal attack.

Jag Virk says 25-year-old Dhami — whose last known address was in Surrey, B.C. — will turn himself into police on Monday, but he maintains his innocence.

The assault occurred at around 10:45 p.m. on March 13. A video of the attack released by police 13 shows the man sitting at the bottom of a stairwell putting on roller blades when three young men approached from behind and began to punch and kick him.

Police say the man suffered a broken nose and cuts to his face.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant for Dhami and Chahil has been issued. Both men are wanted on one count each of aggravated assault.

The third person allegedly involved in the incident has not yet been positively identified, but police say he might go by the first name of Jason.

Police also responded to reports of Dhami's lawyer telling the media that his client is turning himself in.

"It's an unusual step to take. The most logical step would be to take your client and go to a police station as opposed to contacting a news organization," Const. Bancroft Wright said.
