Suspicious Package Near Propane Tanks In Downtown Fernie, BC

Darpan News Desk , 06 Aug, 2019 08:07 PM

On Sunday August 4 Elk Valley RCMP were investigating a suspicious package outside a grocery store in downtown Fernie.

To safeguard the public, the police had closed the area between 7th St and 8th St along 2nd Ave and to 1st Ave.

The area was closed and included the businesses Save-On-Foods, BC Liquor Store, the Tipple Beer Wine Store, Salvation Army, and Urban Settler.

At 12:35 pm the police re-opened the closed area in downtown Fernie and businesses in the area affected were allowed to resume. With support from the RCMP 'E' Division's Explosives Disposal Unit, the suspicious item was examined and determined to pose no threat.

Public safety is paramount to the RCMP therefore these incidents were treated seriously and with an abundance of caution.

The Elk Valley RCMP appreciated the public and business community's patience while the area was closed.
