Tanker Truck Fire Closes Trans-canada Highway Through Kamloops, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Nov, 2015 10:22 AM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A tanker truck explosion has closed the Trans-Canada Highway through Kamloops, B.C.

Assistant Fire Chief Dave McMahon of Kamloops Fire Rescue says a pickup truck slammed into the back of a tanker truck at around 5:30 a.m.

McMahon says crews put out the flames, but are concerned that the valve system in the back of the tanker may have been compromised.

Emergency crews closed a section of Highway 1 and started evacuating nearby homes.

Two people have been taken to hospital, but the driver of the tanker was not hurt.

Traffic is being rerouted through Kamloops and it's unclear when the highway will be reopened.
