TD makes funding gift for new Surrey park space

Darpan News Desk, 10 Feb, 2017 11:12 AM
The City of Surrey received a $500,000 gift from TD Bank Group to develop Forsyth Park in Surrey City Centre. In celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, the funds will support the creation of the TD Nature Play Area which will consist of 1.5 acres of new park space, including a custom designed natural play area, trees, gardens and a connected pathway system to encourage walking and cycling.

"We are pleased to accept this generous donation from TD to develop Forsyth Park, which will be one of the premier green spaces in Surrey City Centre," said Mayor Linda Hepner. "The TD Nature Play Area will be one of the new parks to be constructed in City Centre and will serve as the primary public space in the Forsyth neighbourhood, which will be home to many more people, businesses and services in the future."

The new park space, one of 10 new parks being planned for Surrey City Centre, will help meet the future needs of a rapidly growing city. When completed, the park will also be used for school programs and outdoor studies in partnership with the Surrey Nature Centre.

"For over 25 years, TD has been committed to revitalizing and enriching green spaces across the country," said Mauro Manzi, Senior Vice President, TD Bank Group – Pacific Region. "To continue this commitment, TD will be supporting the development of Forsyth Park in Surrey and over 150 other initiatives across the country in celebration of Canada's 150 years since Confederation."

The donation to the City of Surrey is one of seven major TD-funded projects across Canada this year in which green spaces will be revitalized to serve as a lasting legacy for future generations, in honour of Canada's 150th birthday.
