Thieves Target U.S. Military Mom, Family, Travelling To New Home In Alaska

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Aug, 2015 12:00 PM
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The possessions of an American family have been stolen in British Columbia before they made it to their new home in Alaska.

Police in Abbotsford say Anna Spencer and her five children were travelling through the city after leaving their Georgia home to join Spencer's husband at a military base in Alaska.

Const. Ian MacDonald says Spencer was driving a U-Haul trailer, filled with belongings valued at about $100,000, when thieves made off with an eight-metre truck.

Surveillance video shows the vehicle parked in a hotel lot in the Fraser Valley, east of Vancouver, just after 3 a.m. on Monday morning, about 20 minutes before it's driven away.

The stolen U-Haul was found in Surrey early Wednesday morning, but MacDonald says many of the items are gone.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
