Today on the Hill: Man accused of impersonating soldier due in court

OTTAWA — The man accused of impersonating a soldier at the National War Memorial on Remembrance Day is due in court today.

Franck Gervais was charged by Ottawa police last month a few days after he was interviewed live on television, clad in full military regalia.

A number of veterans and current soldiers complained after seeing the interview and raised questions about the identity of the man, who was seen wearing a medal of bravery.

Gervais faces two charges of personating a public officer, one charge of unlawful use of military uniforms and one charge of unlawful use of military decoration.

Also taking place today in the nation's capital:

— Gov. Gen. David Johnston will preside over a special citizenship ceremony, where he will be joined by former governor general Adrienne Clarkson, the founder and co-chair of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, and by Citizenship Minister Chris Alexander.
