Toronto police have launched a year-long pilot project to test body cameras for police officers.
Police say 100 officers will wear the cameras, and a report on the project due in June 2016. Three different models will be tested.
Staff-Supt. Tom Russell told a news conference officers will activate the cameras whenever there is a call for service or someone is being investigated.
The officers have been trained on privacy and human rights issues, and they will have to tell people when the cameras are operating.
The encrypted video will normally be stored on a police server for a year, unless the material is needed for a longer time.
Russell said the project has a budget of $500,000.
