Toronto Subway System Resumes After Closure Due To Communication Problems

The Canadian Press, 08 Jun, 2015 10:26 AM
TORONTO — Thousands of commuters in Toronto were stranded for more than an hour during the morning rush as the city's subway service shut down due to communication problems.

The subway system shut down around 6:30 a.m. Monday and resumed at about 7:45 a.m.

Brad Ross, a spokesman with the Toronto Transit Commission, explained the problems while the subways ground to a halt: "The subway operators cannot communicate with each other or with the controllers, so we have to shut it down."

Shuttle buses didn't operate during the closure because it was not possible to replace the subway's capacity with buses.

The TTC evacuated its subway stations, which left crowd problems above ground on a rainy morning — something Toronto police were helping control.
