Trudeau Concedes He And Trump Will Disagree On Issues During Monday Meeting

  • Trudeau Concedes He And Trump Will Disagree On Issues During Monday Meeting
YELLOWKNIFE — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau concedes there are areas where he will disagree with U.S. President Donald Trump when the pair sit down together in Washington on Monday.

Trudeau has been walking a communications tightrope ahead of the meeting, refusing to weigh in directly on the president's executive order banning immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries.

Speaking in Yellowknife during a town hall, Trudeau said there are many areas where he sees eye-to-eye with Trump, including jobs for the middle class and economic growth.

He says points of disagreement will be addressed in a "respectful way," but Canada will stay true to its values of openness and respect.

Trudeau says this is the path of success for an increasingly polarized world.

The prime minister is on his first trip to the territories since the 2015 federal election and is expected to meet Northwest Territories Premier Bob McLeod later today.
