Two Arrested In Connection To Sexual Assaults At Universite Laval Residence

  • Two Arrested In Connection To Sexual Assaults At Universite Laval Residence
Quebec City police have arrested two men in connection with alleged break-ins and sexual assaults at a university residence.

One of the accused has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

The other is to be arraigned by video conference today.

Police received 15 complaints of break-ins last weekend at the Universite Laval residence, including four of alleged sexual assault.

One of the accused is 19, while the other is believed to be about the same age.

The university said Saturday that the two accused men were students and have since been expelled from the school.

The case has also caused a stir in the Quebec legislature after a vigil Wednesday night in support of the complainants.

At the vigil, a woman went public about being sexually assaulted by a member of the legislature.

Alice Paquet told Radio-Canada the next day she was assaulted twice by Gerry Sklavounos.

She alleged the two sexual assaults took place in 2014 when she was 19 and working as a hostess at a Quebec City restaurant frequented by politicians.

Sklavounos later stepped down from the Liberal caucus to sit as an Independent.

None of the allegations have been proven and Sklavounos, who has denied the accusations, is not facing any criminal charges.
