VAUGHAN, Ont. — Two people are dead and two more are seriously injured after a gunman opened fire Wednesday at a cafe north of Toronto.
Gunshots rang out around 8:18 a.m. Wednesday in the Moka cafe on Highway 7 near Islington Avenue in Vaughan, said York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden.
"The information that we have is that a man arrived here and began shooting," he said at the scene.
Police have not released any information on the victims or possible suspects. It's not yet known if the victims were employees or customers at the cafe nor if there were other people inside when the shooting took place.
There is a heavy police presence in the area as officers canvassed for witnesses and looked for video surveillance of the incident.
Investigators have spoken with people who were at the scene when the incident occurred, Pattenden said.
Police are asking for anyone in the area around the time of the shooting to contact homicide investigators.
