Two Men Killed In East Vancouver Shooting

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Mar, 2017 11:09 AM
VANCOUVER — A shooting in East Vancouver has left two men dead.

Police say they responded to a report of gunfire (in the area of East 31st Avenue and Inverness Street) around 9:30 Thursday evening.

Officers found a vehicle about a block away with two men who had been shot.

A 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 32-year-old man was critically injured.

Police say the second man died in hospital early the next morning.

The 49 and 32-year-old victims were both well known to Vancouver police, says Staff Sgt. Randy Fincham. Their names have not been released.

Fincham said investigators are trying to track down known associates and are probing potential gang connections.

The neighbourhood where the shooting occurred is "extremely quiet," said Fincham, although there has been previous violence in the area.

"This is extremely concerning to us, and should be extremely concerning to the community as well, to have this level of violence," he told reporters.

No arrests have been made and officers with both the major crime section and the gang unit are investigating.
