Darpan News Desk North Vancouver RCMP, 03 Oct, 2020 12:52 AM
  • UPDATE: North Vancouver RCMP continuing to search for a missing man after water burst from the Cleveland Dam

North Vancouver RCMP are updating a previous release regarding the search of Capilano River. At first light this morning, RCMP resumed the search of Capilano River for victims of yesterday's incident during which a number of people were swept into the water.

The search of the river was paused after sunset last night, though officers continued pursuing other aspects of the investigation throughout the night. When the search resumed this morning, North Shore Rescue continued to assist.

RCMP believe one adult male remains unaccounted for, and officers are continuing efforts to determine that person's location. He is the son of the man who didn't survive after being rescued yesterday. RCMP have conduct of the investigation into the missing adult, while BC Coroners Service, have assumed conduct of the investigation to determine the facts into the death of one adult found yesterday.

RCMP continue to support the Coroner's investigation. Shortly before noon, North Shore Rescue completed their search up to the mouth of the river, where it enters Burrard Inlet, and were unable to find additional victims.

North Vancouver Detachment's marine vessel has been searching the waters beyond the mouth of Capilano River, assisted by a vessel from the RCMP's West Coast Marine Services, and a vessel from Vancouver Police Department's marine unit.

Officers have now engaged the assistance of the RCMP's Underwater Recovery Team.
