SOOKE, B.C. — More than a week after a specialized food bank was hit by thieves in Sooke, B.C., efforts are underway to rebuild the stores of dog and cat food and pet supplies.
In a Facebook post, Victoria Pet Food Bank president Margarita Dominguez confirmed hundreds of kilograms of pet food, along with supplies such as leashes, bowls and dog coats, were stolen from a shed used by the group in the Victoria suburb.
The theft was reported to Sooke RCMP, but no arrests have been made.
Police want to talk to anyone who may have information about the case.
Dominguez reports an online fundraising campaign launched Wednesday by food bank staffers has raised several hundred dollars of the estimated $6,000 needed to replace the supplies.
The kibble and other items are provided to pet owners who live on the street or can't afford all the costs of maintaining a pet.
