Vancouver MLA Mable Elmore Seeking Ndp Nomination For Federal Riding

The Canadian Press, 22 Dec, 2014 12:01 PM
VANCOUVER — A Vancouver MLA is seeking the NDP nomination for the federal riding of Vancouver East.

Mable Elmore currently represents the riding of Vancouver-Kensington for the provincial New Democrats.

Elmore says it was a tough decision to seek the nomination but she wants to pursue issues such as immigration, social justice and affordable housing on a national scale.

She says she received many phone calls to run, including from members of the Fillipino community, who joined her at a news conference on Sunday.

High-profile New Democrat MP Libby Davies announced earlier this month she is stepping down from federal politics after representing Vancouver East for 17 years.

Vancouver East is among the poorest federal ridings in Canada as it includes the city's troubled Downtown Eastside.

Another Vancouver New Democrat MLA, Jenny Kwan, has told reporters that she is considering seeking the nomination.
