  • Vancouver Police arrest suspect after security guard stabbed

Vancouver Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for the alleged stabbing of a security guard in the West End Sunday morning.

“Dozens of VPD officers worked throughout the day to identify and locate the suspect, and thankfully he was arrested without incident last night,” says Sergeant Steve Addison, VPD. “The victim has serious injuries, but we hope he will make a full recovery.”

VPD responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls just before 10 a.m. Monday after a security guard at a drug store near Thurlow and Davie Street was stabbed multiple times while trying to detain a shoplifter. VPD officers performed first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to hospital.

The suspect fled before police arrived, but VPD investigators quickly identified him and traced him to a building in the Downtown Eastside. Officers arrested the suspect around 7 p.m. after he left the building.

He is now facing weapons and assault charges.
