  • Vancouver Police officer injured in crash

Vancouver Police are looking for witnesses and dashcam footage to a serious collision that injured a Vancouver Police officer yesterday afternoon in East Vancouver.

“Our member fell onto the roadway while trying to get out of the way of the suspect’s vehicle, but was hit by the front bumper of that vehicle,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “The officer was taken to hospital that night. He has since been released and will be recovering at home.”

While conducting speed enforcement by New Brighton Park on McGill Street east of Renfrew Street at around 3 p.m. July 27, an officer observed a brown Toyota Corolla travelling at 96 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometre per hour zone. The officer gestured for the driver to pull over. However, the driver sped up and drove at the officer.

The driver was arrested at the scene. Charges for assaulting a police officer with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and excessive speed have been recommended against him.

Anyone who has information pertaining to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage from the area on July 27 between 3 and 4 p.m., is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
