Vancouver Whitecaps FC now gear up to tackle hunger

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 21 May, 2014 12:06 PM
  • Vancouver Whitecaps FC now gear up to tackle hunger
Vancouver Whitecaps FC are now proud partner of Purolator and the Purolator Tackle Hunger program to support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) who provide accessible, healthy, and sustainable food for individuals in our communities.

The GVFBS is dedicated to empowering over 28,000 people weekly in the Lower Mainland by providing access to healthy food, education, and training, but requires the support of the community to accomplish their goal.

By bringing a non-perishable food item or by making a cash donation at the match on Saturday, May 24, ‘Caps fans will be able to help people in need within our community – over a quarter of whom are children.

“We’re excited to partner with Purolator and the Purolator Tackle Hunger program for the third straight season,” said Bob Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC president. “Last year we raised 6,200 pounds of food, and hope to beat that amount this year.”

In addition, on May 24, Purolator will be donating 250 pounds of food for every corner kick taken during the match, and the first 400 fans to make a donation will receive an autographed ‘Caps banner!

“Our partnership with Vancouver Whitecaps FC has proven to be a driving force behind the success of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program in Vancouver,” said Paul Merrick, Director of Operations, B.C. and Southern Alberta, Purolator. “The passion and support of ‘Caps fans make them key players in our goal of helping alleviate hunger through the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.”
