Victoria Officer Hurt In Vehicle Crash Involving Alleged Impaired Driver: Police

The Canadian Press, 15 Aug, 2018 10:51 AM
VICTORIA — A Victoria police officer is nursing injuries after a collision early Tuesday between a police van and another vehicle.

Police say the investigation indicates the driver of the car didn't obey a stop sign, went into the intersection and hit the police van.

Police say in a news release the investigating officers noticed signs of alcohol consumption by the driver and a breath sample indicated the person was well over the legal limit.

The officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Victoria Chief Del Manak says officers on the same evening patrol shift responded to a deadly crash between a motorcycle and car earlier in the evening.

He says the events underscore the types of harm, both physical and psychological, that the city's officers are exposed to on a daily basis.
