MISSION, B.C. — An inmate serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder is missing from a minimum-security prison in British Columbia's Fraser Valley.

Correctional officials say staff at the Mission Institution could not find 43-year-old Shawn Merrick during a count on Tuesday.

RCMP have since issued a warrant for his arrest.

Merrick's tattoos include skulls on his left upper arm, a heart with the name "Jade" on his right upper back, a dragon on his right upper arm and a skull on the left side of his chest.

He also has scars on his right forearm and neck.

Correctional officials say Merrick has also served time for robbery and drug offences.
