On this historic feat he told DARPAN "There was a time when people of color were not even allowed to enter this building, let alone the chamber which I will be presiding over now." As the founder of the Farm Workers Union who fought against injustice in BC and Canada, he reflected on the the #farmersProtest ragin in India at this time.
He has also been a 5 term MLA with the BC NDP. Premier John Horgan and his other New Democrat colleague’s congratulated him on his new role- calling it a historic day in BC politics. He joined Darpan's social media host Ish Sharma to talk about his new role.
