Weather Warnings Issued As Snow Hits B.C.'s South Coast And Vancouver Island

The Canadian Press, 05 Dec, 2016 01:11 PM
Vancouver's first snowfall of the season is causing widespread traffic delays and has prompted the shut-down of a university campus.

Environment Canada issued a weather warning early Monday predicting up to five centimetres of snow for much of the Lower Mainland, as well as southeastern Vancouver Island.

The province's South Coast is known for its temperate weather and there are years when the region doesn't see snow.

Simon Fraser University has announced it would cancel classes at its Burnaby Mountain campus, citing hazardous driving conditions.

Metro Vancouver's transit authority says most bus and SkyTrain routes are experiencing delays and it thanks riders for their patience.

Chilly temperatures are expected to stick around for the next few days, while the snow is forecast to ease up briefly before making a comeback on Thursday.
