WestJet issues strike notice

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 16 May, 2023 10:39 AM
  • WestJet issues strike notice

Travellers hoping to get away for the upcoming long weekend may be out of luck, after the union representing WestJet pilots issued a 72-hour strike notice.

The Air Line Pilots Association says members plan to begin lawful job action early Friday morning. The WestJet Group has in turn issued a lockout notice. The union said last week the issues revolve around job protection, pay and scheduling.

The Calgary-based airline countered that its pilots are among the best paid in Canada, but a contract on par with those recently secured by some U-S pilot groups would be financially unworkable and put the company's future at risk.
