It’s the final countdown for one of the most awaited nights of the year for the South Asian community in Canada—the 2024 DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards, proudly presented by RBC.

This year, the celebration is even more special as DARPAN Magazine marks a spectacular 20 years of bringing forth the stories, successes and contributions of incredible South Asians across the world. A Star-Studded Affair

While we can’t reveal too much, we’re more than excited to share that this year’s awards night will be graced by an iconic Guest of Honor whose name is equated with mental toughness and physical strength. Sorry, but you’ll have to wait until Friday, September 27th, to find out who he is—what we can promise is that it will be worth the suspense!

Red Carpet Glamour

The DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards will kick off with a red carpet and cocktail hour at 6 PM at the Aria Convention Centre. Think champagne walls, photo booths, live musical performances, and more—an atmosphere filled with elegance, opulence, and excitement as guests arrive in style, ready to mingle with South Asian talent, business leaders, and community icons.

The Main Event

Doors to the grand awards ceremony open at 7:45 PM, when we join the community to honor ten incredible South Asians who have made significant contributions to make this world a better place. With 20 years behind us, this year’s awards hold a special place in DARPAN’s legacy, and we are proud to be celebrating it with you.

Electrifying Performances

The DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards this year will also include an unforgettable music night with British Punjabi singer-songwriter Sukshinder Shinda, known for his chart-topping hits and iconic voice. Also, bringing high energy and vibrance to the evening will be Vancouver’s top dance troupe VanCity Dance—a performance we are sure you’ll enjoy!

Police on Vancouver Island say they have seized illicit drugs and guns as part of an investigation targeting mid-level drug trafficking in the Cowichan Valley. R-C-M-P say searches at three homes in the Duncan area and one in Sooke turned up three kilograms of suspected fentanyl, 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as six handguns, including two that were made using a 3-D printer.

Dozens of new shelter beds are opening for people living on the streets in Victoria, including at an encampment where police escorts have been required for emergency responders. A statement from the Housing Ministry says that up to 72 new beds will be made available for people living on Pandora Avenue and elsewhere.

SUV allegedly rams into police car
Surrey Mounties say they got a call about a suspicious vehicle around 146 Street and 108 Avenue, and the driver of a Ford S-U-V allegedly hit a police vehicle as it fled from officers.  Surrey R-C-M-P says the S-U-V also hit another vehicle that was stopped and later drove into oncoming traffic as police were in pursuit.
