Wicked Storms Slam B.C. Coast And Southern Interior With High Winds, Rain, Snow

    VANCOUVER — Some nasty weather skidded across parts of the province, late Tuesday and early Wednesday but a second, more powerful storm is bearing down on the entire length of the coast and all of southern B.C.
     
    Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for the north and central coasts, Haida Gwaii, northern and eastern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, with 100 kilometre per hour winds not due to ease until Thursday.
     
    Special weather statements are also issued for inland sections of the north and central coasts, most of Vancouver Island and the entire southern third of the province from Metro Vancouver east to Alberta.
     
    The first wave dropped as much as 40 millimetres of rain in some areas, dumped snow on the Coquihalla summit, Allison and Kootenay passes, and made other Interior roads very treacherous.
     
    After a brief respite, Environment Canada expects the second wave early Thursday, drenching parts of southern B.C. with up to 100 millimetres of rain.
     
    Strong winds are also forecast over Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo late Thursday with gusts continuing right through to Friday.
