Wildfire flares on Vancouver's North Shore

VANCOUVER - Firefighters in West Vancouver are responding to a what they describe as a wildfire at the top of the Caulfeild neighbourhood on the lower slopes of Cypress Falls Park.

West Van Fire and BC Wildfire Service are responding now to a fire near Cypress Mountain. Conditions remain extremely dry and fire danger is elevated. Please use caution when enjoying the outdoors and report unsafe fire activities at 604-543-6700. #WestVan pic.twitter.com/rJ5SJS06QI

West Vancouver Fire Rescue duty chief Matt Furlot says crews responded at around 7 a.m.

He said they were trying to pinpoint the exact location of the fire and the best way to access to the flames.

The neighbourhood is a heavily wooded area with many homes and businesses.

Smoke from the fire could be seen across much of Vancouver.

Conditions across the Lower Mainland remain extremely dry, with less than 20 millimetres of rain recorded in the area since early July.

The fraudsters follow up by sending the victims graphic photographs of dead bodies while continuing to demand money.

Police were called to the scene after a group of three people were approached by two people with firearms. One suspect pointed a firearm at one of the victims and struck him in the face before taking the victim’s bag.
