Wildrose Leader Brian Jean To Run In Fort McMurray-Conklin Riding

Darpan News Desk IANS, 30 Mar, 2015 01:15 PM

EDMONTON — Wildrose Leader Brian Jean will run against a sitting cabinet minister when the next election is called.

Jean (GENE) says he will run in his home city in the Fort McMurray-Conklin constituency against Advanced Education Minister Don Scott.

Scott was also in cabinet under former premier Alison Redford and defeated the Wildrose candidate by more than 400 votes in the 2012 election.

Jean, who is 52, won the Wildrose leadership on the weekend to fill the spot left open when former leader Danielle Smith crossed the floor with eight caucus colleagues.

He served the area as a Conservative MP for a decade before retiring in 2014 to spend more time with his family.

Jean's 24-year-old son, Michael, died of lymphoma during the leadership race, and Jean has promised his message in the next election campaign will be to fix the health system.
