Winnipeg City Councillor Russ Wyatt Charged With Serious Sexual Assault

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 Jul, 2018 12:03 PM
WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg city councillor has been charged with a serious sexual assault.

Police say Russ Wyatt, who is 48, was arrested this week and has been released pending a future court date.

Const. Rob Carver says Wyatt is charged with committing a serious sexual assault against an adult woman on Jan. 14.

He says the two were known to each other but the woman is not Wyatt's wife.

Carver says sexual assault investigations can take time because they often depend on lab results.

Wyatt took a leave of absence from city council early this year, and entered a rehab program for substance abuse in March.
