Witnesses Sought As IIO Probes August 2015 Death Involving Vancouver Police

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 09 Aug, 2016 12:53 PM
VANCOUVER — The independent civilian body that investigates police-involved deaths or serious injuries in British Columbia is searching for witnesses to a fatal confrontation in Burnaby nearly one year ago.

Members of the Independent Investigations Office are probing the Aug. 13, 2015 death of 33-year-old Sechelt resident Myles Gray.

He died as Vancouver police responded to reports of a man causing a disturbance near the boundary between Vancouver and Burnaby.

Gray died and six officers were injured during a violent scuffle as police tried to make an arrest.

A release from the IIO says new information suggests Gray may have been trying to speak to occupants of passing vehicles just before he died.

IIO investigators want to hear from anyone who was approached by Gray or who may have been driving near the intersection of Marine Drive and Joffre Avenue on that Thursday between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
