  • Woman dead, man critical in Surrey, B.C., attack

SURREY, B.C. - Homicide detectives have taken over an investigation after a dead woman and a critically injured man were found as fire crews answered an alarm at a Surrey, B.C., apartment.

RCMP say firefighters discovered the scene while responding to the alarm and sprinkler activation at the building in the Guildford neighbourhood Sunday evening.

The survivor has life-threatening injuries, but police say the public is not believed to be at risk.

IHIT is trying to determine if the tripped alarm and triggered sprinklers could be linked to the case.

Police say fire crews confirmed there was no fire.

Water from the sprinklers caused extensive damage to the building and RCMP say residents will be displaced for some time.
