A 34-year-old woman has been killed in a head-on crash on Vancouver Island after witnesses told police her vehicle crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic.

West Shore RCMP say the crash happened on Sunday at about 4:10 p.m. on Sooke Road in Langford in the Greater Victoria area.

A statement from police says witnesses told officers that a grey Hyundai Elantra was travelling westbound when it crossed the centre line and collided with a white Toyota Avalon.

The victim, the driver of the Hyundai, died at the scene.

Police say the two occupants of the Toyota suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

The crash hampered traffic in the area for several hours as Sooke Road was shuttered until 8 p.m. that day.

Police say the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and anyone with dashcam footage of the crash or nearby areas that captured the Hyundai travelling westbound should contact investigators immediately.
