Woman Sexually Assaulted By Brother Of Serial Killer Robert Pickton Awarded $45,000

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 01 Jul, 2015 04:25 PM
VANCOUVER — A woman who was sexually assaulted by the brother of serial killer Robert Pickton has been awarded $45,000 in civil court.

A B.C. Supreme Court jury has ruled that David Pickton inflicted psychological trauma on a woman after assaulting her more than two decades ago.

The total award includes $20,000 in punitive damages, which the woman's lawyer says is intended as a deterrent.

Pickton was fined $1,000 and sentenced to one year of probation after being convicted of sexual assault in 1992.

The woman testified that Pickton cornered her inside a trailer, pressed her up against a wall and groped her genitals over her jeans before threatening to rape

    and kill her.

Her lawyer says she is pleased with the result and is looking forward to moving on with her life.
