A woman who was already wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been arrested and charged after allegedly stabbing a stranger in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

Vancouver police say the alleged attack happened on Sunday around 2:50 a.m., when a patrolling officer in the area of East Hastings and Abbott streets was flagged down by a group of people.

The group told the officer that one of their friends had just been attacked by a stranger and slashed in the shoulder.

Police then located and chased down the suspect, Tasering her in the arrest process.

The 29-year-old woman was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violations as well as on a provincewide warrant for violating her probation order, and police say she has been charged with two counts of assault.

The 31-year-old man injured in the attack is recovering after being treated at hospital.
