  • Youth charged in shooting that sent 15-year-old to hospital in Nanaimo, B.C.

Police on Vancouver Island say a 17-year-old boy has been charged after a shooting last week sent a 15-year-old victim to hospital.

Nanaimo RCMP say the victim was treated in hospital and is recovering after being released.

Mounties say the shooting occurred on Feb. 11 and the suspect was arrested two days later by the Victoria Police Department and the emergency response team.

Police say the charges were approved the day of the arrest and include discharge of a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Nanaimo RCMP say the suspect was remanded in police custody after a bail hearing.

They say the firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not been found and the investigation continues.
