Funds Being Raised, Support Offered For Injured Hockey Player From Newfoundland

  • Funds Being Raised, Support Offered For Injured Hockey Player From Newfoundland
BISHOPS FALLS, N.L. — Atlantic Canadians are offering financial support and encouragement for a young hockey player from Bishop's Falls, Newfoundland, who suffered a serious head injury in a car crash last week.

Eighteen-year-old Scottie Greene of the St. Stephen Aces Junior A team underwent an operation last week at a Saint John, New Brunswick, hospital and was placed in an induced coma.

Derek Ford, the president of the Bishop's Falls minor hockey association, has started a GoFundMe account to help Greene's family through the crisis and by early today it had raised over $17,000.

The plan is to turn the money over to the family to offset the costs of accommodations, food and other expenses as they travel to see their son.

Meanwhile, members of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles — where Greene played last year — and the Saint John Sea Dogs tweeted an image of themselves after a Saturday game.

The players are surrounding a sign that says, "Keep fightin' Greener. We are all behind you."
