Playoff-Hungry Winnipeg Jets Fans Prepare For First Playoff Game In 19 Years

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Apr, 2015 11:57 AM
Winnipeg Jets fans lined up early to snap up jerseys and white T-shirts for the city's first playoff run in 19 years.

Eric Troniak (TROH'-nee-ack) was among more than 50 people who waited outside the National Hockey League team's official gear store before it opened.

He says his wife told him to get five white T-shirts — enough for the whole family.

Troniak remembers efforts to keep the original Jets franchise from leaving the city in 1996, and says the return of the NHL in 2011 has reinvigorated Winnipeg.

White jerseys have a special significance in Winnipeg and date back to the original franchise, when fans tried to create a "whiteout" in the stands by wearing white clothing.

The Jets clinched a playoff spot Thursday night when the Los Angeles Kings were knocked out of contention by losing to the Calgary Flames.
