Sakshi Malik To Be Awarded Rs. 2.50 Crore, Khel Ratna, Job By Haryana Government

Darpan News Desk IANS, 18 Aug, 2016 01:36 PM
Haryana government today announced a reward of Rs. 2.50 crore and a job to wrestler Sakshi Malik for winning a bronze medal in the Rio Olympics.

A financial reward of Rs. 2.50 crore will be given to Sakshi for winning the bronze medal, an official spokesman said in Chandigarh.

Besides, she will also be given a government job for her historic feat as provided in the sports policy of the state, he said.

Sakshi ended the country's painful wait for a medal at the Rio Olympic Games by clinching the bronze in the 58 kg category, pulling off a sensational 8-5 victory over her rival in the play-off bout.

The 23-year-old from Rohtak became only the fourth woman athlete from India to win an Olympic medal as she earned the dramatic win after falling behind 0-5 in the do-or-die bout on day 12.

ALL SET TO GET KHEL RATNA FOR HER OLYMPIC MEDAL

Olympic bronze medal winning wrestler Sakshi Malik is all set to be conferred with country’s highest sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award as per policy decision by the government.

It has been decided that during Olympic years anyone, who wins a medal, will be automatically conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

Sakshi has not yet got the Arjuna Award, but the policy decision by the government will ensure that she is directly considered for the Khel Ratna.

Gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who narrowly missed the bronze medal in Rio and shooter Jitu Rai, who was one of the two shooters to have made it to the final, are the other two who have been recommended for the prestigious award.
