WHL Roundup: Levi Cable scores four goals to lead Ice in rout over Hitmen

    CRANBROOK, B.C. — From the opening faceoff, it was all Levi Cable.

    Cable scored three of his four goals in the first 23:10 of play to start the game as the Kootenay Ice routed the Calgary Hitmen 6-2 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

    Luke Philp and Jaedon Descheneau also found the back of the net for Kootenay (19-17-0) for its fourth-straight win.

    Pavel Karnaukhov and Michael Zipp replied for the Hitmen (19-13-3).

    Wyatt Hoflin was solid in net, turning aside 49 shots in the victory. Mack Shields started in goal for Calgary but was pulled after stopping 10-of-14 shots in 24:48. Evan Johnson entered in relief and made six saves in 35:12.

    Both teams scored once on three power-play chances.

    BLADES 6 RAIDERS 3

    PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Ryan Graham and Sam McKechnie both had a pair of goals as Saskatoon doubled the Raiders.

    Mason McCarty and Nikita Soshnin also scored for the Blades (8-25-3).

    Jayden Hart, Reid Gardiner and Jordan Tkatch responded for Prince Albert (16-19-1).

    WHEAT KINGS 3 WARRIORS 0

    MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Jordan Papirny stopped all 29 shots he faced as No. 5 nationally-ranked Brandon blanked the Warriors.

    Jayce Hawryluk, John Quenneville and Reid Duke all scored for the Wheat Kings (25-7-4).

    Zach Sawchenko kicked out 30 shots for Moose Jaw (15-18-3), which has lost four straight.

    SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Carter Rigby had a goal and three assists as the Broncos slipped past Regina.

    Colby Cave struck twice for Swift Current (18-14-4), with Jay Merkley and Jake DeBrusk rounding out the attack.

    Kyle Burroughs, Adam Brooks and Connor Gay scored for the Pats (20-12-2).

    HURRICANES 6 TIGERS 5

    MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Zane Jones scored his second of the game at 17:36 of the third period as Lethbridge held on to beat the Tigers.

    Jamal Watson also struck twice for the Hurricanes (9-20-5) for their third-straight win. Giorgio Estephan and Miles Warkentine supplied the rest of the offence.

    Alex Mowbray had a pair of goals for Medicine Hat (24-9-2), with Tommy Vannelli, Anthony Ast and Kyle Becker also chipping in.

    REBELS 3 OIL KINGS 2

    EDMONTON — Wyatt Johnson scored twice to lead the Oil Kings over Red Deer.

    Conner Bleackley had the other Rebels' (19-13-4) goal to help them snap a two-game losing skid.

    Ben Carroll opened the scoring for Edmonton (16-15-5) with Brett Pollock also finding the back of the net.

    ROCKETS 4 BLAZERS 2

    KELOWNA, B.C. — Rourke Chartier scored twice in his first game back after being cut by Canada's world junior team as the Rockets doubled Kamloops.

    Dillon Dube and Tyson Baillie also had goals for No. 2 Kelowna (29-5-3) in its third-straight win.

    Collin Shirley and Cole Ully chipped in for the Blazers (13-21-5), who have now lost three straight.

    THUNDERBIRDS 4 WINTERHAWKS 3

    KENT, Wash. — Ryan Gropp scored his 15th of the season late in the first period and it stood as the winner as Seattle edged Portland.

    Jerret Smith, Justin Hickman and Evan Wardley also had first-period goals for the Thunderbirds (15-15-4).

    Ethan Price, Paul Bittner and Dominic Turgeon supplied the offence for the Winterhawks (19-15-3).

    SILVERTIPS 1 GIANTS (OT)

    EVERETT, Wash. — Nikita Scherbak scored just 28 seconds into overtime on the power play as the Silvertips edged Vancouver.

    Austin Lotz kicked out all 28 shots he faced in goal for Everett (21-9-4).

    Cody Porter turned away 21 shots for the Giants (16-18-1), who snapped a seven-game winning streak in the loss.

    SPOKANE, Wash. — Kailer Yamamoto had a goal and two assists to lead the Chiefs past Tri-City.

    Liam Stewart, Calder Brooks, Dominic Zwerger and Jackson Playfair also scored for Spokane (19-12-3), which has now won five straight.

    Richard Nejezchleb had a power-play goal in the third period for the Americans (17-16-1).

    VICTORIA — Zach Pochiro struck twice as Prince George scored three second-period goals to down the Royals.

    Haydn Hopkins and Aaron Boyd rounded out the attack for the Cougars (18-18-0), who snapped a three-game losing skid.

    Tyler Soy had a pair of goals for Victoria (17-18-3), with Greg Chase adding the other. It was the Royals' fifth-straight loss.
