Facebook most preferred social networking medium for urban teens'

    Despite a drop in the percentage, Facebook continues to be the preferred social networking playground for teenagers in India's metros and other big cities, according to a survey.
     
    Seventy-six percent of teenagers spread across 14 Indian cities had a Facebook account in 2014, though the figure was 86 percent in 2012, said the survey conducted by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
     
    The findings said 48 percent of the urban teenagers post on Facebook once in every three days, while 53 percent of high school students have more than 120 friends, whereas 60 percent have over 120 friends in mini metros.
     
    The TCS GenY survey was undertaken between July to December 2013 across 14 Indian cities - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune, with a total base of 18,196 high school students of 12-18 age group.
     
    The primary data was collected from the participants by means of a questionnaire at each of the locations
     
    It said 87 percent of the high school students think social media has made them aware of current affairs.
     
    Nine of 10 urban teenagers have phones, while tablets are as popular as mobile phones both in metros & mini metros.
