New Facebook app identifies, shares songs you listen to

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 22 May, 2014 02:20 PM
Taking your status update a step ahead, a new Facebook app would automatically recognise the song you are listening to or the TV show you are watching and will add it to your status.

The latest version of Facebook app for iOS and Android has audio recognition feature and starts listening as soon as you start typing a new status.

The app is designed not to help you figure out what is playing but to make it as easy as possible to update your friends about what you are listening to or watching, the Verge reported.

You do not need to tap "Listening to" or “Watching” in the status-creation screen.

You can opt in to the feature for the first time by tapping a new button inside the status window.

“When there is a match, a badge pops up over Facebook’s feelings button, a small smiley face,” Facebook feature product manager Aryeh Selekman said.

When Facebook recognises a TV show or movie or a song being played in the background, a link to the corresponding page will be added to your status.

“We can not identify background noise and conversation. Sounds are only used to find a match and are never stored,” Facebook said in a statement.

The feature is currently available for US users on iOS and Android platforms.
